Where to Go for Care

Choosing the right level of care helps you get treatment quickly while avoiding unnecessary costs.
Choosing the right level of care
Knowing where to go for care can save you time and money. Here’s how they compare:
Teladoc Health
A quick, low-cost option for care. Connect with a doctor or licensed behavioral health provider anytime, day or night, from your phone or computer. Teladoc Health also offers virtual primary care, giving you an ongoing relationship with a provider for routine visits, chronic condition support, and referrals when in-person care is needed.
Speed of service: Fast — available 24/7
Cost: $ Lowest — $10 per visit if enrolled in an LSC Medical Plan
Process: Register at teladochealth.com or download the app to talk to a physician by phone or video
Treatment types: Allergies, cold/flu, ear infections, pink eye, stress, depression
Primary Care Physician (PCP)
See your in-network PCP in person for free preventive care and low-cost visits. Your PCP is your best resource for routine care, ongoing health management, and referrals to specialists.
Speed of service: Moderate
Cost: $ Low — preventive visits free
Process: Schedule an appointment with your in-network PCP or call the Health Care Concierge for assistance finding a doctor
Treatment types: Annual physicals, flu shots, well-child visits, everyday health concerns
Urgent care
A good option when you need help quickly but it’s not life-threatening — think a sprained ankle, a bad ear infection, or a high fever that needs attention right away when your PCP isn’t available.
Speed of service: Fast
Cost: $$ Moderate
Process: Walk-ins welcome
Treatment types: Back pain, migraines, sprains, minor fractures, cuts needing stitches
Emergency room
Reserve the ER for true emergencies. Important — if you go to the ER for non-emergency services, you’ll pay an additional $500 penalty, and it does not count toward your deductible or out-of-pocket maximum.
Speed of service: Long wait times
Cost: $$$ Highest
Process: Go to the nearest ER or call 911
Treatment types: Chest pain, trouble breathing, severe injuries, broken bones
